Mason Gooding is set to face Ghostface once again, reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in the upcoming Scream 7. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the latest installment of the iconic horror franchise is slated for release on February 27, 2026.

Gooding, the son of Academy Award-winner Cuba Gooding Jr., has been a core part of the franchise’s reboot, appearing in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023). His character is one of the “Core Four” alongside Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, who portrayed Chad’s twin sister, Mindy. While Brown’s return remains uncertain, Barrera and Ortega are officially out, with Barrera fired in late 2023 and Ortega stepping away due to scheduling conflicts.
Joining the evolving cast is Celeste O’Connor, known for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Marvel’s Madame Web. O’Connor’s role in the film has yet to be revealed, but they’ll appear alongside Neve Campbell, returning as Sidney Prescott after missing Scream VI due to a contract dispute. Isabel May is also on board to portray Sidney’s daughter, marking a new chapter for the legendary final girl.
The film will continue the franchise’s long-standing legacy, which began with the 1996 Wes Craven classic and has since grossed over $900 million worldwide. Kevin Williamson, who penned the original film, takes the director’s chair for the first time, working from a script by Guy Busick, the writer behind the 2022 reboot and Scream VI. Producers James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein will return under Project X Entertainment.

Courteney Cox, who plays journalist Gale Weathers, is reportedly in talks to return, and Patrick Dempsey has hinted at the possibility of reprising his role as Mark Kincaid, Sidney Prescott’s husband. However, neither casting has been finalized.
Gooding’s involvement continues a busy slate for the actor, who will next appear in the horror film Heart Eyes, releasing February 7, 2025. Meanwhile, Scream 7 is poised to take the meta-horror franchise to new heights, with fresh faces and returning favorites ready to confront Ghostface’s reign of terror.
As the countdown to 2026 begins, fans of the genre can anticipate a fresh blend of thrills and nostalgia in the latest chapter of Scream.
