Rosario Dawson is set to lead the supernatural horror-thriller Unmerciful Good Fortune, marking the feature directorial debut of veteran editor Tirsa Hackshaw. Hackshaw, whose editing credits include Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher, adapts the project from Edwin Sanchez’s award-winning play of the same name.
Dawson, who is also producing the film, stars as Maritza Cruz, a celebrity attorney thrust into a headline-grabbing case. The story centers on Fatima, a waitress accused of poisoning and murdering 28 people. Fatima’s defense takes a chilling turn when she claims to have psychic powers that reveal how people will die upon touch—and that her murders are acts of mercy to prevent fates worse than death.

Joining Dawson as producers are Tom DeSanto (X-Men, Transformers), Corey Large (It Follows), and Brian Kirchoff for Rising Tide Entertainment. Jordan Wilson and Hackshaw are executive producing, with Pia Patatian’s Concord Studios managing global rights.
Dawson shared her excitement for the project to Deadline, stating: “Unmerciful Good Fortune is one of those truly rare projects that grabs you out of the gate and just doesn’t let go. It’s smart, scary, original, and heartbreaking. From the drop, it struck me, and I knew I had to come onboard to produce it as well because I couldn’t risk it never seeing the light of day.”
Dawson’s recent credits include her portrayal of Ahsoka Tano in the Disney+ series Ahsoka and as a producer, she’s worked on films like Descent and This Is Not A War Story, along with documentaries highlighting social justice and environmental issues.
