Confluential Films has kicked off production on the chilling horror film “Goons” in New Orleans. The movie, directed and co-written by Gerard McMurray, unfolds against the eerie backdrop of Louisiana’s cane fields and plantations. The film is led by Michael Rainey Jr. (‘Power’ Universe) and Chloe Bailey (‘Swarm’).
McMurray, known for his work on “The First Purge,” co-wrote the script alongside Hodge K. Johnson. The film is produced by Tommy Oliver, adding to the anticipation surrounding this genre-bending project.
“Goons” is fully financed by Confluential Films through their brand-new genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions. This label is committed to delivering bold, culturally specific horror films created by people of color. The collaboration extends to McMurray’s own Buppie Productions, emphasizing the power of Black storytellers in the industry.
Tommy Oliver expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are cooking up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. Kicking off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director is a thrilling way to introduce this exciting venture.”
McMurray himself shared his personal connection to the project: “Goons” serves as a love letter to his hometown, New Orleans. As he steps into the director’s chair for a horror film, he emphasizes the collaborative spirit that drives Black storytellers forward.
Stay tuned for updates as the film develops.
