Netflix is getting ready to take viewers into a world of teenage rebellion, religious fervor and supernatural visions with The Body, a new eight-episode psychological drama from creator Quinn Shephard.

Described as a coming-of-age drama with elements of horror and dark comedy, The Body centers on a group of Catholic school girls whose initiation into a dance team takes a disturbing turn. Wylie stars as Grace Franklin, with Kristina Bogic playing Anya Butler, Sara Boustany as Elise Zakaria and Geena Meszaros as Lisbeth Anderson. The principal cast also includes Nnamdi Asomugha as Father Franklin, Louisa Krause as Catherine Anderson, Shirley Chen as Maddie Delaney and Jackson Kelly as Leo Anderson.

The filmmaker has also cited a mix of ’90s and Y2K teen movies and thrillers as inspirations for the series, alongside classic stories of religious persecution such as The Crucible and the Salem witch trials. The result, she says, combines a heightened visual and tonal style with a grounded coming-of-age story.
At its heart, The Body explores questions surrounding identity, faith, belonging and the complicated process of growing up. While the characters are teenagers navigating their beliefs and relationships, Shephard’s themes extend beyond adolescence, examining how the uncertainties of coming of age can continue well into adulthood.
The series is being executive produced by Peter Chernin, Amy Israel and Josh Stern for North Road, along with Riley Keough, Gina Gammell and Sacha Ben Harroche for Felix Culpa, as well as Blair Breard.
Netflix ordered the eight-episode series in 2025. The project was subsequently cast with Bogic, Boustany, Meszaros, Asomugha, Krause, Chen, Kelly and Wylie as series regulars, while the larger ensemble joined in recurring roles. Production took place in Canada, including locations in Ontario.
