Shemar Moore is suiting up as Hondo again, and STARZ is already betting on more.
S.W.A.T. Exiles has been renewed for a second season ahead of its September 25 series premiere. The spinoff brings Moore back as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, following the conclusion of the original S.W.A.T. series after eight seasons on CBS.
The new series picks up after a high-profile mission goes sideways, forcing Hondo out of retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of young, unpredictable recruits. He’ll have to bridge a generational divide and turn a group of outsiders into a team capable of protecting Los Angeles while saving the program that helped define his career.
Moore announced the Season 2 renewal on Instagram, revealing that production is expected to begin in a couple of months.
“What’s goodie? What’s goodie? What’s goodie?” Moore said before sharing the news. “S.W.A.T. Exiles just got picked up for Season 2, baby.”
Moore is the only original series regular returning to Exiles, but several familiar faces will make appearances during the first season. Jay Harrington returns as Sgt. David “Deacon” Kay, Patrick St. Esprit reprises Commander Robert Hicks, and David Lim will return as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode.
The new cast includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein.
Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Moore, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scura and Jon Cowan.
The 10-episode first season will premiere Friday, September 25 on STARZ, with new episodes airing weekly and streaming on the STARZ app. Sony Pictures Television independently produced the series and has secured distribution deals across major international territories.
With Season 2 already secured, Hondo’s return is officially more than a one-season comeback.
