Netflix Doubles Down on Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentlemen,’ Renews Series For a Second Season

Netflix has officially renewed the hit series ‘The Gentlemen’ for a second season. The crime drama, created by Guy Ritchie, will return with eight new episodes, featuring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario reprising their roles as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass, respectively. Ritchie will once again take the helm as director and writer, collaborating with co-writer Matthew Read.

The first season of ‘The Gentlemen’ introduced viewers to Eddie Horniman, who inherits his late father’s sprawling country estate, only to discover that it houses a secret cannabis empire run by Susie Glass and her incarcerated father. Initially determined to distance his family from the criminal world, Eddie soon finds himself drawn into it, realizing he has both a knack and a taste for the illicit trade.

Season 1 featured a star-studded cast including Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, and Ray Winstone. Daniel Ings, who played Eddie’s brother Freddy, will return in the upcoming season. The first season also explored the turbulent relationships between Eddie’s family members and their encounters with various criminal groups from Liverpool, Albania, and the traveling community.

Set in the same universe as Ritchie’s 2019 Miramax film ‘The Gentlemen,’ the series does not share characters with the movie but offers a fresh storyline within the familiar gritty world. The show became an instant hit after its release on March 7, spending 10 weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 for English-language series, with its first three weeks at the number one spot.

Production on Season 2 is scheduled to begin next year, with additional cast members to be announced. The series is produced by Moonage Pictures for Netflix and Miramax Television, with Guy Ritchie, Will Gould, Matthew Read, Frith Tiplady, and Ivan Atkinson serving as executive producers.

Speaking at the launch of the first season, executive producer Marc Helwig hinted at the potential for ‘The Gentlemen’ to expand into a broader Guy Ritchie universe, possibly even leading to another film.
