The Refuge Plays is an epic tale that begins with a chilling revelation. Late at night in the woods of southern Illinois, a ghost foretells Gail’s impending death within 24 hours. The play follows the journey of a Black family over a span of 70 years, offering a reimagining of the classic American “family play” genre, infused with humor, heart, and surprising twists.

The creative team behind the production is filled with notable talents. Sets will be designed by Arnulfo Maldonado, Emilio Sosa will handle costumes, Stacey Derosier will manage lighting, while original music and sound will be crafted by Marc Anthony Thompson, and composer Imani Uzuri will provide vocal soundscapes. Paloma McGregor will coordinate the movement.

Nathan Alan Davis, the playwright, has gained acclaim for previous works, including Nat Turner in Jerusalem at NYTW and The High Ground at Arena Stage. His repertoire also includes Eternal Life Part 1 at Wilma Theater, Origin Story at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Wind and the Breeze at Cygnet Theatre, and Dontrell Who Kissed the Sea as part of the NNPN Rolling World Premiere.

For those eager to witness this compelling theatrical experience, tickets are available at RoundaboutTheatre.org. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this thought-provoking and heartwarming production.
