‘Power: Legacy’ is Official a Go at Starz — Tommy and Tariq Are Taking Over New York

The Power universe is not done yet.

Starz has officially ordered Power: Legacy to series, reuniting two of the franchise’s most beloved characters for the first time since the Power Book IV: Force finale. Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. will reprise their roles as Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick respectively, with the first season consisting of eight episodes.

The new series picks up directly after the events of the Force finale, which saw Tommy and Tariq reunite and save the day. With Tommy having established himself as the top of the criminal underworld in Chicago, Tariq extends an invitation to bring that energy back to New York. Tommy accepts. The official logline is simple: Tommy returns to New York, where he partners with Tariq to take the city by storm.

Gary Lennon, who most recently served as showrunner on Power Book IV: Force and previously executive produced the original Power series, will showrun and executive produce Legacy. The pilot script was co-written by Lennon and Kendra Chapman Davis. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson returns as executive producer through G-Unit Film and Television, alongside Power creator Courtney A. Kemp through her production company End of Episode, Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment, Sikora, Davis, and Chris Selak. Rainey Jr. serves as producer.

Power: Legacy is also notable for being the first entry in the franchise structured as a co-production between Starz and Lionsgate Television rather than a licensing deal, allowing Starz to participate fully in ancillary and downstream revenue for the first time.

“Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet,” said Jackson. “Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City.”

Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, added that the Power universe has remained at the forefront of culture for over a decade and that Legacy will fuse the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.

The announcement comes as the broader Power universe continues to expand. Power Book III: Raising Kanan returns for its fifth and final season on June 12th, with the series wrapping up the story that started it all. Meanwhile Power: Origins, currently in production in New York, will pick up after the events of the Raising Kanan finale with Mekai Curtis reprising the role of Kanan Stark opposite Spence Moore II as young James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Charlie Mann as young Tommy. A premiere date for Origins has not yet been announced.

The franchise has now accumulated more than 2 billion hours viewed globally across all of its series, with the Season 3 premiere of Force alone drawing 9 million multiplatform viewers.

Power: Legacy does not yet have a premiere date.
