The cast also includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, Khobe Clarke, John Harlan Kim, Brooke Lena Johnson. Recurring roles will be played by Claire Forlani, Nikki Crawford, Isabella Tagliati, Zeke Goodman, and Jon Tenney.

Set in an elite Washington, D.C., college, the series follows ruthless step-siblings navigating a cutthroat social hierarchy. A brutal hazing incident threatens the Panhellenic system, leading the characters to do whatever it takes to preserve their power, even if it means manipulating the daughter of the vice president.

The series is a collaboration between writers Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film. Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher, known for their work on “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” serve as executive producers and writers.

Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD originals at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about sharing the next chapter of “Cruel Intentions” with Prime customers. The series promises to be as fun, irreverent, and boundary-pushing as the original, continuing the legacy of the beloved ’90s cult classic.

The original “Cruel Intentions” film, released in 1999, gained significant attention and became a cult classic. Directed by Roger Kumble, the movie was a modern adaptation of the French novel “Les Liaisons dangereuses” by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.

The story revolves around a group of wealthy and manipulative teenagers in New York City’s elite social circles. It follows the complex and twisted relationships between step-siblings Kathryn Merteuil (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (played by Ryan Phillippe). They engage in a game of seduction and manipulation, targeting innocent victims and playing with their emotions for their own amusement.

The film also starred Reese Witherspoon as Annette Hargrove, a virtuous and intelligent young woman who becomes the object of Sebastian’s seduction. Selma Blair portrayed Cecile Caldwell, an innocent and naive girl caught in Kathryn’s manipulative schemes.

At the box office, “Cruel Intentions” achieved commercial success, grossing over $75 million worldwide. It continues to be celebrated for its unique take on the teen drama genre, capturing the intrigue and moral ambiguity of its characters.
