Cameras Down: Rapman Announces ‘Supacell’ Season 2 Has Finished Filming

Two years since its season 1 release, Supacell creator Rapman has confirmed that filming on season 2 of the hit Netflix sci-fi series has officially wrapped. The director shared the news today on Instagram alongside a photo of himself at an editing screen displaying the words “Supacell 2,” telling fans the show is now in post-production.

“Due to circumstances out of our control we had to pause production for a while. But filming is finally done! I’m currently in the edit getting it ready. It’s coming and I PROMISE it will be worth the wait,” he wrote in the caption.

The update comes roughly eight months after Rapman first confirmed the season was in production, posting a photo of a script last October with a message asking fans for their patience.

The British superhero drama, which debuted on Netflix in 2024, follows five Black South Londoners who develop superpowers linked to the sickle cell trait and must band together against a shadowy organization hunting them down. The show stars Tosin Cole as Michael, a man who can manipulate time and teleport, and Adelayo Adedayo as his fiancee Dionne. Nadine Mills plays Sabrina, who possesses telekinesis and flight, while Eric Kofi-Abrefa’s Andre has superhuman strength and near-invulnerability. Calvin Demba’s Rodney can move at super speed and heal rapidly, and Josh Tedeku’s Tazer can turn invisible. Eddie Marsan rounds out the cast as Ray, the face of the shadowy agency hunting the group.

The series landed to strong critical reception upon its 2024 debut, with particular praise directed at its grounded, South London setting, its fresh take on the superhero genre, and its centering of Black British stories and characters in a space that rarely makes room for them. Season 1 ended on a gut punch, with Michael watching Dionne die in his arms after a final confrontation left him with no energy to rewind time and save her. The closing scene revealed that the true villain pulling the strings is Victoria, a sickle cell researcher secretly running a facility that captures and experiments on powered individuals. Two years on from that cliffhanger, fans have been left largely in the dark about where the new season picks up.

No release date has been announced by Netflix.
