Rashida Jones and Hailee Steinfeld to Star in Disney’s Original Animated Film ‘Hexed’

Rashida Jones is leading the charge in Disney’s latest original animated feature.

The actress has been tapped to voice the Type-A mom in Hexed, a new film unveiled during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. She stars alongside Hailee Steinfeld, who voices the teenage lead, Billie Doe.

Set for a November 25 theatrical release, Hexed follows an unconventional teen and her tightly wound mother as they discover that Billie’s quirks may actually be magical powers—launching them into a hidden world where magic runs free and threatens to turn their lives upside down.

Footage shown at CinemaCon teased that journey, with Billie undergoing a whimsical personality test conducted by a talking book and quill—complete with British accents—before being pulled into a vibrant, mysterious magical realm.

Steinfeld, an Oscar nominee for True Grit, continues to build out her voice acting résumé following projects like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, while Jones brings her signature wit and grounding presence, known from Parks and Recreation and films like On the Rocks.

The film marks the directorial debut of Josie Trinidad, who previously served as head of story on Zootopia and Ralph Breaks the Internet, alongside Jason Hand, co-director of Moana 2 and a story lead on Encanto. Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones produce, with Jared Bush executive producing.

Hexed arrives at an interesting moment for Disney. While sequels like Zootopia 2 have shattered records—becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time—original animated features have seen a more unpredictable box office run. Still, with a strong creative team and fresh concept, Hexed looks positioned to tap into that balance of heart, humor, and spectacle that Disney audiences expect.
