Monique Coleman and Jahi Di’Allo Winston to Star in Nostalgic Indie Film ‘California Skate’

The roller disco era of the late 1970s is rolling back into the spotlight with the indie film California Skate. Starring Monique Coleman (High School Musical), Jahi Di’Allo Winston (We Have a Ghost), and Brooke Shields (Mother of the Bride), the film offers a nostalgic dive into a transformative night in 1979.

Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire), Henry Winkler (Barry), Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods), along with emerging talents Caleb Baumann (Doom Patrol), Kayli Tran (The Boys), Hayden Carson Begley (Walled In), and newcomer Elliot Gilbert Adler (The Connors) also star in the feature.

Set under the vibrant neon lights of a roller rink, California Skate follows a group of teens navigating first loves, newfound friendships, and the unforgettable excitement of growing up—all in the span of one life-changing night.

The film, directed by David Kukoff (Model Behavior), recently wrapped production on location in Grand Terrace, California. The project boasts a team of powerhouse creatives, with Bernie Kukoff and Marc R. Gordon serving as executive producers, and Bridget Moynahan, Cheryl Bayer, and Wendy Eley Jackson as co-producers.
