Samson Kayo (F1, House of the Dragon, Our Flag Means Death) and Benicio Del Toro are joining the cast of Protective Custody, Apple TV’s upcoming comedy series from Mike Judge. Kayo and Sonny Valicenti (Mindhunter, Super Pumped) have been set in series regular roles, while Del Toro stars opposite Ben Stiller and Amy Sedaris. Character details are being kept under wraps.
The series marks Del Toro’s first leading role in a comedy series, as well as a reunion with Stiller, with whom he collaborated on Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora, for which both received Emmy nominations. Del Toro is fresh off an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another.
Created by Judge, Steve Hely and Dave King, Protective Custody follows a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial. Judge co-writes, co-showruns and executive produces alongside Hely and King, with Judge also directing.
Executive producers include Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Rodney Ferrell for Propagate Content, Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst for 3 Arts Entertainment, Del Toro, Nanette Burstein and Blair Breard.
