Sanaa Lathan Joins Briana Middleton and Kyle Allen in Los Angeles Wildfire Thriller Tilt

Sanaa Lathan has signed on to join the cast of Tilt, a conspiracy thriller currently in production across Los Angeles. She joins previously announced leads Briana Middleton and Kyle Allen in the film directed by Sophia Banks, whose previous feature includes Black Site.

Lathan will play Maeve Paxton, the mother of Middleton’s character Evie, a struggling freelance reporter at the center of the story. The film follows Evie and her cinematographer partner Jake, played by Allen, as they chase a career-defining story that pulls them into a web of corruption and media manipulation set against the backdrop of a raging Los Angeles wildfire. It is a setting that carries real weight in a city long defined by its relationship with fire, most recently the devastating January 2025 blazes that tore through Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and surrounding communities.

The script comes from Arwen Elys Dayton, a bestselling novelist. Damiano Tucci of Getaway Entertainment and Peter Winther are producing. Banks, Dayton, and Tucci are co-founders of Getaway Entertainment, the production banner behind the project. Tarama-Lee Notcutt is serving as casting director.

Lathan is an Emmy-nominated actress, recognized for her work on HBO’s Succession. She built much of her reputation through a string of beloved romantic dramas including Love and Basketball, The Best Man, Brown Sugar, Something New, and Nappily Ever After. More recently, she made her directorial debut with a feature adaptation of Angie Thomas’s novel On the Come Up and wrapped production on A Blue Butterfly in London.

Tilt is currently shooting across the greater Los Angeles area.
