Orion Pictures has set a release date for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the action thriller starring two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. The film will open in New York and Los Angeles theaters on September 25, followed by expansions on October 2 and October 9.
Written and directed by Bassam Tariq, the film stars Ali as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman navigating the brutal tension between his violent profession, his faith and his role as a father. When his wife dies, he embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, confronting the forces closing in around him and the beliefs threatening to unravel within. The title draws its inspiration from an Islamic hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad emphasizes honoring one’s mother three times before mentioning the father.
The ensemble cast includes John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, Giancarlo Esposito, Adia, and Jahleel Kamara. Tariq produced alongside Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari of Two & Two Pictures. The film is distributed by Amazon MGM Studios.
The project marks a notable reunion. Tariq was originally set to direct Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot with Ali leading as the titular vampire hunter, but exited the production in 2022 after a turbulent development process. Blade has since undergone multiple rewrites, director changes and delays, with its future still uncertain. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother represents the first time the two have collaborated since that parting, though on a significantly different kind of project. Tariq previously earned international acclaim for his feature Mogul Mowgli.
The film enters a crowded September 25 marketplace alongside Bleecker Street’s Cannes title Victorian Psycho, Paramount’s Heart of the Beast directed by David Ayer and starring Brad Pitt, Disney’s re-release of Avengers: Endgame and Universal’s animated comedy Forgotten Island.
