Shannon Thornton and Tosin Morohunfola to Star in Tyler Perry’s Drama ‘Joy Ridge’

Tyler Perry has concluded filming for his latest project, the third installment in his exclusive four-picture deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

The upcoming drama, tentatively titled “Joy Ridge,” stars Shannon Thornton from “P-Valley” and Tosin Morohunfola, known for his role in “Run The World.”

Perry took on the roles of writer, director, and producer for the film, which recently completed shooting in the scenic landscapes of Colorado and at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The narrative follows the character Joy, portrayed by Thornton, embarking on a holiday journey with expectations of encountering ‘the one.’ However, her expedition takes a captivating turn as she discovers someone who challenges her preconceived notions about life back home.

The official logline teases, “Amidst the picturesque landscapes of Colorado, Joy finds herself on a holiday trip with a man she envisions as ‘the one.’ However, her journey takes an enchanting turn as she stumbles upon someone who might just redefine her notions about the life she once knew back home.”

Producing the film alongside Perry are Tyler Perry Studios executives Angi Bones and Will Areu. This collaboration marks Perry’s third project as part of the deal signed with Amazon in November 2022. Previous announcements unveiled “Black, White & Blue,” delving into the aftermath of police brutality, and “Divorce in the Black,” starring Meagan Good and exploring the complexities of a fractured marriage.

The movie also serves as a reunion for Perry and Shannon Thornton, who previously played a supporting role in the Netflix thriller “Mea Culpa.” However, in “Joy Ridge,” Thornton takes center stage, showcasing her talent in a leading role. Thornton, recognized for her portrayal of Keyshawn (aka Miss Mississippi) in the NAACP Image Award-winning Starz series “P-Valley,” has an impressive resume, including roles in popular shows like “Power,” “Dynasty,” and “Inventing Anna,” among others.

Tyler Perry continues to diversify his cinematic portfolio, delivering compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. “Joy Ridge” is anticipated to captivate viewers with its intriguing storyline and stellar performances from Shannon Thornton and Tosin Morohunfola.
