Tyler Perry Has Two Films Currently In Production "Joe's College Road Trip" and "Madea's Destination Wedding"

Tyler Perry is stepping into his famous two personas, Joe and Madea, for not one, but two stand-alone films.

Perry is set to bring more entertainment to Netflix with “Joe’s College Road Trip” and the 13th installment in the Madea series, “Madea’s Destination Wedding.”

Madea’s brother Joe is getting his stand alone feature with Joe’s College Road Trip. The film is a comedy-drama that will started production early 2024. The film follows the story of Brian, who reluctantly sends his sheltered son, B.J., on a college tour with his grandfather, Joe. The goal is for Joe to impart valuable lessons about Black History and the real world. As the two generations clash, they encounter various challenges, leading to a transformative journey where B.J. gains a new perspective on his family’s history.

While much details on casting for this film have been kept under as “Jon Shivers, director of Beale Street for the Downtown Memphis Commission, said the Beale scenes mainly involved the grandfather and grandson driving up and down the street in the vintage red convertible that is their road-trip vehicle.”

The casting sheet for Joe’s College Road Trip reveals a diverse set of characters, including Vikki and Garrett, with the former described as privileged and often labeled a Karen. Production is set to conclude around March 1st, 2024. Tyler Perry is both the writer and director, collaborating with long-time partners Angi Bones and Will Areu as producers.

In addition to Joe’s College Road Trip, according to TheGrio, Perry is currently in production for “Madea’s Destination Wedding.” The plot centers around Madea’s granddaughter Tiffany, who shocks her family by announcing her wedding in the Bahamas just two weeks away. As chaos ensues, Madea, along with her family, navigates the unexpected twists and turns leading up to the destination wedding.

Shooting for Madea’s Destination Wedding began on January 15 in Atlanta and is set to conclude on January 26 at Tyler Perry Studios, with additional filming planned in the Dominican Republic.

These films join Perry’s robust slate of upcoming Netflix releases, including “Mea Culpa” and “Six Triple Eight,” set to premiere in 2024. Both films are part of Perry’s multi-year, first-look contract with Netflix. Perry’s partnership with Netflix allows him creative control to write, direct, and produce feature films, with a total of eight films slated over the next four years.
