The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike is in full swing, with more than 11,000 television and film writers on strike seeking better wages and job security. This is the largest strike of its kind since 2007 and threatens some of television’s most watched and beloved shows.

As the strike continues, the entertainment industry is facing a major disruption, with many scripted projects being put on hold and a Hollywood shutdown looming. As shows are affected, we’ll update this list of all the TV shows impacted by the WGA strike. Here’s what we know so far:

The below shows were shut down for a day due to picketing but may resume shooting:

P Valley

P-Valley, which is filming its third season, has postponed its production in Atlanta. “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached,” creator, Katori Hall said in a statement. “Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she added, “I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”

Ava Duvernay’s Untitled Romance Drama

A Starz series from Ava DuVernay starring Joshua Jackson and Lauren Ridloff is the latest series halting its production as a result of the writers strike. The untitled series had been filming in Wilmington since March but is stopping production this week. For more details on the series, click here.

Andor creator/showrunner Tony Gilroy ceased all non-writing producing duties on the Disney+ series amid the WGA strike, following backlash. “I discontinued ALL writing and writing-related work on ANDOR prior to midnight, May 1,” Gilroy said in a statement. “After being briefed on the Saturday showrunner meeting, I informed Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing ALL non-writing producing functions.”

The series is entering its second season.

 

 

Town Hall

Vice President Kamala Harris’ May 18th appearance at an MTV-sponsored town hall has been postponed.

 

Sinking Spring

The presence of picketers has temporarily shut down production to the upcoming Apple TV+ series Sinking Spring starring Brian Tyree Henry.

 

The Venery of Samantha Bird

With two more episodes to shoot, The Venery of Samantha Bird shut down production. The Starz drama series was shooting in Montreal.

 

Shows Affected By WGA Strike

Blade Remake

Marvel Studios pushed back production on its upcoming Blade remake starring Mahershala Ali after pre-production was temporally shut down due to the writers strike. Marvel just hired Nic Pizzolatto to pen the script and given that he was just hired and can’t do any work on it during the strike, the studio thought it best to push production on filming till script was ready

 

Billions

WGA strikers shut down production of Billions which was filming in NYC. After a few days of being shut down, the seventh and final season shut down production with no date announced on when it will start up again.
 

 

Stranger Things

Production for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has been delayed by the writers strike. Faced with the prospect of filming without writers on set, creators, executive producers and showrunners the Duffer Brothers have opted to instead postpone production.

 

The Ms Pat Show

Executive producer, Jordan E. Cooper tweeted the show’s pausing production, “IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD! And the word makers deserve to be paid fairly. None of it exists without us. And neither does the executives’ multiple penthouses that’s keeping us from making a fair living. Let them put their mistresses in a smoke free room at the Motel 6 ✊🏾#wga”

 

American Horror Story

Production for the 12th season of the FX’s anthology horror series has halted because teamsters on the series refused to cross picket lines outside of Silvercup Studios in New York, WGA East member Kaitlin Fontana tweeted on Wednesday.

Loot

Loot’s second season paused its production after WGA picketers have caused studio Universal Television to pause production at its Bel-Air location.

Unstable

The second season of Netflix’s comedy, starring real-life father and son Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe, has been shut down

Reportedly six weeks into its eighth and final season, production on Netflix’s animated coming-of-age series shut down ahead of its expected August deadline.

Hacks

Filming on Season 3 of HBO Max/Universal TV hit comedy series Hacks has been halted due of the writers strike and production will be on pause for the duration of the work stoppage.

According to Deadline, the writers room has shut down on Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which was in production on Season 3.

2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards

The MTV Awards will still air but Drew Barrymore pulled out as host of the awards show in support of striking writers and MTV has pivoted away from a live event and putting together a pre-taped show for its annual awards.

The Talk

The daytime talk show goes dark and will not film this week because of the writers strike, which started today as its staff includes WGA writers.

Abbott Elementary

The writers’ room for the third season of “Abbott Elementary” was supposed to convene on May 2nd, but it has been closed. This strike could impact the number of episodes they can pen for the upcoming season.

 

Cobra Kai

The writers’ room for the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai” has been closed. No writers are currently on set for season 6 production. “These aren’t fun times, but it’s unfortunately necessary. The moment a fair deal is in place, we’ll get back to kicking ass,” says Jon Hurwitz.

 

Daytime Soap

“Days of Our Lives” and “General Hospital” operate on fast and furious production schedules, meaning they have the fewest finished scripts and episodes to air. In a few weeks they will also go dark.

Night Court

According to sources, NBC’s Night Court is currently in production on its second season but due to the fact that it will need writing tweaks done ahead and during taping, the series is expected to go dark for the time being.

Tony Awards

Broadway’s biggest awards night could be in trouble depending on how long the WGA strike lasts. The Tony Awards are set to take place on June 11th but if WGA writers are still on strike, producers could be forced to cancel or modify the show format.

All progress on writing for season 3 of the Showtime drama has halted after exactly one day of progress.

Late Night Shows

Late-night shows: ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” CBS’ “The Late Show,” and NBC’s “Tonight” and “Late Night” are all on hiatus, with repeats being shown. HBO will also cease live production of “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “This Week Tonight” with John Oliver. Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” is also on hiatus.
