Warner Bros Pushes Back Release Date for Ryan Coogler's Supernatural Thriller 'Sinners'

Warner Bros is reshuffling its 2025 release calendar, pushing Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror film, Sinners, from its original March 7 release date to April 18. The new date positions the movie in the highly lucrative Easter weekend slot, where the studio has previously seen success with films like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ready Player One, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The film, which will also feature IMAX screenings, is expected to be one of the season’s major releases.

The delay is attributed to post-production challenges stemming from the movie being shot on film, a process slowed by the scarcity of film labs. Sinners is set in the Jim Crow-era South and weaves supernatural folklore with a narrative centered on vampires. It follows twin brothers, played by Michael B. Jordan, who return to their hometown to escape a troubled past, only to face a greater evil.

The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, Wunmi Mosaku, Jack O’Connell, Omar Benson Miller, Li Jun Li, Hailee Steinfeld, Lola Kirke, Emonie Ellison, Ja’Quan Monroe-Henderson, Yao, Miles Caton, Peter Dreimanis, and Christian Robinson. Coogler’s Proximity Media, alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, is producing the project. The creative team reunites Coogler with several collaborators from Black Panther, including Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, and composer Ludwig Göransson, who is also serving as an executive producer.

Taking over Sinners’ original March 7 release date is Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson. This marks Joon-ho’s first film since the Oscar-winning Parasite. The movie tells the story of Mickey Barnes (Pattinson), an unlikely hero whose job demands that he die repeatedly for his employer.

In other scheduling news, Warner Bros has moved Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II from October 2026 to October 1, 2027, allowing additional time for visual effects. The October 2026 slot will now be occupied by Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled film, which stars Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.

With Sinners anchoring its Easter lineup and other key projects filling the calendar, Warner Bros is positioning itself for another strong year at the box office. Sinners, with its unique premise, top-tier cast, and Coogler’s direction, is poised to be a standout release.
