Snoop Dogg is gearing up to star in and co-produce an original sci-fi adventure, The Last Man, helmed by celebrated filmmaker Luc Besson. The film has a post-apocalyptic twist, though specific plot details remain under wraps. Early buzz suggests the project may draw inspiration from Planet of the Apes and could tie into Snoop Dogg’s 2009 track “Last Man Standing.”
Luc Besson, known for his mastery of the sci-fi genre with cult classics like The Fifth Element (1997) and box office hit Lucy (2014), is writing and directing the feature. Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson, amassed $469 million globally, while his ambitious Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) brought in $226 million worldwide. The Last Man is expected to echo the high-energy blend of science fiction, action, and comedy that defined The Fifth Element.
This project marks a reunion for Snoop Dogg and Besson, who previously collaborated on the animated film Arthur and the Minimoys nearly two decades ago, where Snoop lent his voice to one of the main characters.
Produced by EuropaCorp, the film sees Virginie Besson-Silla and Luc Besson leading the production alongside Snoop Dogg and Sara Ramaker under their Death Row Pictures banner. Filming is slated to begin in 2025.
This role adds to a busy year for the multifaceted artist, who has appeared in The Underdoggs and The Garfield Movie. Snoop’s evolving film career continues to highlight his versatility as an entertainer.
Meanwhile, Luc Besson recently directed Dogman, starring Caleb Landry Jones, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. He has also reunited with Landry Jones for Dracula, a fresh take on Bram Stoker’s gothic classic, featuring Christoph Waltz in a lead role.
