In a major announcement for “Power” fans, Starz has confirmed that “Power Book IV: Force” will be concluding after its third season, which is currently filming in Chicago. This signals the end for Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) and his crew, but it doesn’t spell the end for the broader “Power” universe.
According to Deadline, The cancellation aligns with Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch’s strategy to contain content costs by developing new shows rather than extending existing series that become increasingly expensive. Shortly after this strategy was revealed in March, Starz announced the development of a new prequel series, “Origin.” This series will explore the early years of Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and Tommy, echoing the format of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” which delves into Kanan Stark’s (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) youth.
The news of “Power Book IV: Force” ending follows the recent announcement that “Power Book II: Ghost” will also conclude with its fourth season. Showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon assured fans that “Force” will have a proper conclusion, stating, “It is bittersweet to write the fulfilling ending of this chapter in Tommy’s journey, a character myself and fans have grown to love over the past decade. Season 3 will question everything we thought we knew of Tommy’s world and I promise you it will not disappoint!”
Lennon has already moved on to developing another installment within the “Power” franchise, having signed a new deal with Lionsgate Television to expand and create new extensions of the popular series.
Joseph Sikora, in a video shared on social media, hinted at more to come for Tommy Egan. “We’re just getting warmed up, and I can’t wait to show you what we have planned next,” he said, assuring fans that “Power” will continue to evolve.
With both “Force” and “Ghost” concluding, fans are left wondering about the future of the “Power” universe. “Raising Kanan” might wrap up after its fifth season, potentially leading to Mekai Curtis reprising his role as Kanan Stark in “Origin.” There is also the possibility of merging characters from “Ghost” and “Force” into a new series set in the present day.
Michael Rainey Jr., who plays Tariq, has expressed mixed feelings about continuing his role. “I wouldn’t be against it if it was a thing. Why wouldn’t I? I would love to give the fans what they want,” he said. “But also, I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my career.”
The original “Power” series ended with Ghost’s murder by his son Tariq, leading some to speculate that Tariq’s story might conclude similarly. However, given the franchise’s popularity, it seems likely that a present-day series will continue.
The Tejada family storyline is particularly volatile. Monet (Mary J. Blige) is recovering from a gunshot wound, while her son Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) is bent on revenge for their father’s murder. Cane (Woody McClain) emerges as a strong contender for survival, though anything could happen.
On the “Force” front, characters like David “Diamond” Sampson (Isaac Keys) might transition into new series, but this remains speculative as the final season is yet to air.
There has also been talk of the “Power” franchise expanding internationally, potentially combining original and new cast members in exciting new locations. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates as the “Power” universe continues to evolve.
