Netflix Drops Thrilling Trailer for Rapman’s Sci-Fi Series ‘Supacell’

TRAILER

Netflix has released the official trailer for ‘Supacell,’ a new six-part sci-fi series created by Rapman. The show, which features a predominantly Black cast, explores the lives of ordinary individuals in South London who suddenly develop superpowers. Leading the cast is Tosin Cole, joined by Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Adelayo Adedayo, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, Rayxia Ojo, and Giacomo Mancini.

‘Supacell’ follows a group of seemingly unrelated people who all discover they have superpowers, with their only commonality being their race. As they navigate the changes in their lives, one man, Michael Lasaki (played by Cole), must unite them to protect his fiancée, Dionne (Adedayo), while evading dangerous forces that have taken notice of their abilities.

The trailer provides a glimpse into Michael’s life as he enjoys his engagement to Dionne. His world is turned upside down when he is transported into the future by a future version of himself, who warns him that Dionne’s life is in danger. This revelation sets off a chain of events, introducing viewers to the other super-powered characters.

Rapman serves as the showrunner, creator, and lead director for ‘Supacell,’ directing episodes 1, 2, and 6. Known for his love of the Marvel and DC superhero genres, Rapman wanted to create a story where superpowers are used pragmatically to improve personal circumstances rather than for traditional heroic purposes. He developed the concept for ‘Supacell’ before releasing ‘Blue Story’ in 2019, aiming for a grounded, unpredictable narrative.

The show’s characters are described as everyday people with flaws, who do not conform to the typical superhero archetype. ‘Supacell’ presents these characters in their normal attire, using their powers in realistic settings.

Sebastian Thiel directs two episodes, with Mark Hedges as the series producer and Sheila Nortley as the Block2 producer and associate producer. Geraldine Hawkins is the co-producer. Executive producers include Rapman, Anna Ferguson, and Steve Searle for Netflix, alongside Mouktar Mohammed from New Wave. Henrietta Lee from New Wave is an associate producer.

‘Supacell’ will be available on Netflix on June 27. Watch the trailer below
