Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist TRAILER

Peacock has dropped the trailer and first look images for its upcoming limited series, “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.” Accompanied by UGK’s “International Player’s Anthem,” the teaser promises a gripping narrative centered around one of the most audacious armed robberies in U.S. history.

The ensemble cast boasts big names including Don Cheadle, Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Dexter Darden, Myles Bullock, Rockmond Dunbar, and Marsha Stephanie Blake. The series, ordered in December, is based on the Will Packer-produced podcast that chronicles the dramatic events surrounding Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight in Atlanta. Dexter Darden steps into the role of the legendary boxer, capturing Ali’s essence during this pivotal moment in his career.

Created by Shaye Ogbonna, “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” delves into the historic night of Ali’s triumph over Jerry Quarry. This victory marked Ali’s return to boxing after being banned for refusing to be drafted into the military. However, the celebration took a dark turn when hundreds of guests at the after-party were robbed at gunpoint, leading to one of the largest armed robberies in American history. Set in Atlanta, the series shines a light on the city’s identity as “the Black Mecca,” focusing on a cop and a hustler at the heart of the heist.

Don Cheadle plays JD Hudson, one of Atlanta’s first Black detectives, tasked with ensuring Ali’s security and investigating the robbery. Dexter Darden stars as Muhammad Ali, capturing the boxer’s charisma and determination. Kevin Hart portrays Chicken Man, a hustler aiming for greater heights, with Taraji P. Henson as Vivian Thomas, his mistress and a savvy businesswoman. Terrence Howard takes on the role of Richard “Cadillac” Wheeler, a gangster linked to the Council of 12. Samuel L. Jackson embodies Frank Moten, the notorious “Black Godfather.” Rockmond Dunbar plays Uncle Willie, an autobody shop owner and top fence in the area. Marsha Stephanie Blake stars as Delores Hudson, JD’s wife and a committed social worker.

Ogbonna and Jason Horwitch serve as showrunners, weaving a tale of ambition, crime, and resilience. Executive producers include Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Will Packer, Sabrina Wind, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson, Carrie Lieberman, Jeff Keating, and Lars Jacobson. The series is set to benefit from the directorial expertise of Craig Brewer, known for “Dolemite Is My Name,” who will helm the first two episodes. Tiffany Brown and Kenny Burns join as co-executive producers.
