Better late than never right? 20 years later there is a Paid in Full sequel in the works. During a recent interview with AllHipHop, Damon Dash, an executive producer of the original, revealed he’s in the process of shooting the Paid in Full sequel in Newark, New Jersey. “It’s what happens after put all that work on the street, and somebody had to get that money back,” Dash said. “There’s a lot of perspectives that people don’t know. We chose three, really one. Now I’m showing all perspectives,” he continued. “So you’ll see a perspective from the stickup kids at the time, see a perspective of the younger dudes, I was a younger dude, the 16-year-olds. You’ll see perspectives from Kevin Childs, Jay Black, everybody, Lou Simms. It’s going to be off the hook. Trust me. It was set in the late 1980s and starred Wood Harris, Mekhi Phifer, and Cam’ron as Rico, Ace, and Mitch, three Harlem drug dealers. The synopsis reads: Ace (Harris) is a young man employed by a Harlem dry cleaning shop, working hard to stay out of the drug business. While making deliveries, he meets Lulu (Morales), a drug dealer who convinces Ace to join him. Ace recruits his friends Mitch (Phifer) and Rico (Cam'ron), and the trio become major players in the Harlem drug underworld, a violent business that will test the friends' loyalty and wits as the money rolls in and the dangers grow beyond their control. When it premiered in October 2002, it grossed over $3 million worldwide, and arrived alongside a soundtrack, released via Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings, boasting songs from Killa Cam, Jay-Z, and Master P, among others. No suspects have been arrested. In the days following Martinez’s death, Dash spoke on his personal connection to Paid in Full and his plans to revisit the story with a sequel. As of now there is no news on casting or plot.
