Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical is about to get even more star-studded with the addition of Taye Diggs and Wayne Brady to its cast. Beginning July 22, Brady will take on the role of Harold Zidler, and Diggs will play The Duke of Monroth at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
This Tony-winning production, based on Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film, has already etched its name into Broadway history. Nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2020, it won 10, including Best Musical. Directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan, Moulin Rouge! weaves a tale of love, passion, and betrayal set against the iconic backdrop of Paris’ Moulin Rouge cabaret. The score blends modern pop songs from artists like Katy Perry, Elton John, and Sia with the classic tunes from the film’s original soundtrack.
Wayne Brady, a five-time Emmy Award winner, is a familiar face to audiences, known for his work on Whose Line Is It Anyway? and his Broadway roles in The Wiz, Chicago, and Kinky Boots. He also hosts Let’s Make a Deal and has performed in other notable productions like Hamilton and Freestyle Love Supreme.
Taye Diggs, who originated the role of Benjamin Coffin III in Rent, has a long history on Broadway with performances in Chicago, Wicked, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. His film career includes well-known roles in How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Wood, and The Best Man. His latest project, Terry McMillan Presents: Forever, is currently streaming on Lifetime.
The cast also includes Solea Pfeiffer as Satine, Jordan Fisher as Christian, and Andy Karl, who will continue his portrayal of The Duke of Monroth through July 20. Boy George is currently playing Harold Zidler and will wrap up his run on May 25, with Austin Durant taking over from May 27 through July 20.
With Brady and Diggs joining this already talented ensemble, Moulin Rouge! promises to offer theatergoers a captivating experience this summer. Tickets for performances through November 30 are now available, and additional casting announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
