Diarra From Detroit is back, and BET+ is giving the greenlight for a second season of the dramedy that has everyone talking. Created, written, and starring the bold and talented Diarra Kilpatrick, the show quickly became a favorite among fans and critics after its debut, and now it’s ready to keep delivering. Bryan Terrell Clark, DomiNque Perry, and Jon Chaffin are all returning as series regulars, joining Kilpatrick for another round of laughs, drama, and Detroit grit.
“After an explosive first season that captured both the hearts of our audience and the critical acclaim it deserves, we’re thrilled to bring Diarra From Detroit back for season two,” said Aisha Summers Burke, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of BET Studios. “Diarra’s unique voice and unapologetic storytelling speak directly to our viewers, and we know this next chapter will elevate everything audiences loved about the first season.”
From the jump, Diarra From Detroit grabbed attention with its fresh, genre-blending approach and standout performances. The show was named one of the Best TV Shows of 2024 by Deadline, Rolling Stone, and Variety, and it’s held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes since it premiered in March 2024. Rolling Stone called it “one hell of an entertaining cross-hybrid series,” and Variety labeled it “refreshing, captivating, and unapologetically Black.” Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter celebrated it as “a sparkling showcase for creator-star Diarra Kilpatrick.”
The accolades didn’t stop there. As 2025 rolled in, Diarra From Detroit earned two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, as well as nods from the NAACP Image Awards and GLAAD Media Awards. Kilpatrick herself snagged a Gracie Award for Actress in a Breakthrough Role (Drama). On top of that, the show became a ratings juggernaut during its linear run on BET, claiming the title of No. 1 new series on cable among Black viewers, while also dominating key demos like Black adults 18-49, 25-54, and total Black viewers 2+. Among all scripted cable series, it currently ranks just behind Sistas in terms of Black audience reach.
“We’re beyond excited to be back and grateful for the chance to take everyone on another wild, very Detroit adventure,” said Kilpatrick. “The way fans and critics have embraced this show has been incredible, and we’re so ready to deliver even more.”
Kenya Barris, executive producer of the show, also shared his excitement: “Last season proved that Diarra Kilpatrick is truly a force, and I can’t wait to see what she and the team bring to the table for this next chapter.”
