Exclusive Interview: Tayo Amos Talks TV Directorial Debut with ‘Chicago Fire’ + NBCU’s Landmark Female Forward Directing Program

I had the privilege of speaking with Tayo Amos, the director of this season’s “Chicago Fire,” episode titled “Danger Is All Around.”

Tayo’s directorial debut on broadcast TV is a significant milestone, and it was made possible through NBCU’s Female Forward directing program. The program aims to create gender parity in the director’s chair by providing women with the opportunity to break into episodic television directing.

This program guarantees that participating directors will helm an episode of television in the same season that they shadow, and more than 70% of its participants are now working TV directors. In this interview, we speak with Tayo about her experience in the program and and the challenges and rewards of her TV directorial debut with “Chicago Fire.”
