Terrence Howard, Evan Ross, Macy Gray, and Randall J. Bacon Star in Indie Dramedy ‘Turnbuckle’

A stacked ensemble is coming together for Turnbuckle, a new indie dramedy blending dark comedy and action elements from writer-director Sean McEwen, who has officially wrapped production on the film.

Shot in Arkansas, the project brings together an eclectic cast led by Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Terrence Howard, Evan Ross, Cara Delevingne, Famke Janssen, and more. Also joining the ensemble are Macy Gray, Sam Strike, Lily Mo Sheen, Randall J. Bacon, and Tammin Sursok.

While the official logline for Turnbuckle is being kept under wraps, the film is described as a darkly comic Southern story centered on redemption, survival, and small-town chaos—leaning into both tension and humor in equal measure.

The project is being shepherded by a producing team that includes Evan Ross and Greg Carney under their banner Film Mafia Entertainment, alongside Daemon Hillin, Ryan R. Johnson, Sprockefellar Pictures, and Mia Chang. Mira Pak Howard, Terrence Howard, and Alexander Foard are serving as executive producers, with Freedom United overseeing casting.

Ross spoke about the film’s tone and vision, calling it “dangerous and elevated,” and emphasized the energy of the ensemble cast and the Arkansas setting, particularly Hot Springs National Park, which served as a key backdrop for production.

Arkansas plays a central role in the film’s atmosphere, with production highlighting its mix of natural landscapes and small-town texture as a fitting canvas for the story.

With its mix of established names and genre-blending ambition, Turnbuckle is positioning itself as a gritty, character-driven indie that leans into unpredictability—both in tone and casting.
