Thandiwe Newton to Star in Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Channing Tatum is returning to the Magic Mike franchise for Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and bringing Thandiwe Newton along for the ride.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the Westworld star is in negotiations to star in the third installment. Details of Newton’s role have are being kept under wraps, but THR indicates that she will be the female lead of the film.

Plot details for Magic Mike’s Last Dance are unknown at this time, what we do know is that the third installment, will be released exclusively on HBO Max.

The streamer is very much team Mike as it is in the process of a Magic Mike reality series called Finding Magic Mike. It produced by Tatum and Soderbergh, is making its way to the streaming service later this month. It was working together on that unscripted project that got the Magic Mike star and filmmaker discussing a third and final movie.

It has been 10 years since the first installment, Magic Mike was released in theaters and became an unexpected hit, earning more than $167 million at the box office.

Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film, returns to direct this pic with Reid Carolyn writing the script. Gregory Jacobs, who directed the 2015 hit Magic Mike XXL, returns to produce along with Carolin, Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan.

The first two films combined to gross nearly $300 million worldwide and, in 2017, the franchise spawned the successful stage show Magic Mike Live.
