Oyegun penned the psychological thriller that follows an African-American female (Sumpter) med student as she finds herself in a “timely psychological thriller premise in the tradition of Get Out.”
According to Comingsoon, “the spec script was reportedly the subject of a heated bidding war amongst various suitors with HBO Max winning the deal with a high six-figure offer.
Sumpter addressed her excitement for the project via her Instagram.
“So grateful we followed our gut @kayoyegun. Grateful I get to produce and work with this dope group of folks. @michaelbjordan @alanaoyam @hbomax Thank you,” she wrote in a caption.
The Ancestor will be produced by Michael B. Jordan and Alana Mayo’s Outlier Society alongside the banner’s Khaliah Neal, Oyegun and Sumpter, with Emily Gerson Saines attached as executive producer.
