Where the The Last of Us fans? HBO just dropped a thrilling two-minute first look at season 2 of the hit apocalyptic series.
The release coincided with “Outbreak Day,” an annual tradition that marks the start of the cordyceps virus outbreak in the The Last of Us universe which was September 26, 2013. This year commemorates the 11th celebration of the iconic day in the franchise.
Season 2 picks up five years after the first season’s gripping finale, with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) attempting to live in peace. However, as their haunting past resurfaces, they find themselves at odds with each other while facing a world even more treacherous than before.
The upcoming season welcomes back Pascal and Ramsey, alongside Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy. This season will fans will also be introduced to several new faces, including Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, and special guest star Catherine O’Hara.
The series, which quickly became HBO’s most-watched debut season, has captivated audiences and earned multiple Emmy nominations, including nods for Pascal and Ramsey. The first season’s success has set high expectations for the next installment, which is slated for release next year.
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann return as the creative forces behind The Last of Us, serving as writers and executive producers.
