The streets just got a little less safe—but a whole lot funnier.
Paramount Pictures just dropped the first teaser for The Naked Gun reboot, and yep… it’s as off-the-wall as you’d expect. Leading the madness is none other than Liam Neeson, stepping into the wild world of slapstick crime-solving as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr.—son of the late, great Leslie Nielsen’s iconic detective.
Directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, this version of The Naked Gun isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—it’s gleefully steering it into a brick wall. From outrageous gags to an O.J. Simpson side eye, this teaser is proof that the franchise’s signature absurdity is alive and kicking.
And yes, Neeson is fully committed. We’re talking schoolgirl uniforms, polka dot boxers, and deadpan one-liners like his life depends on them. If Taken Neeson had “a very particular set of skills,” this version has a very peculiar sense of humor.
The cast is stacked with a mix of comedic talent and wildcards: CCH Pounder, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Danny Huston, Busta Rhymes, Pamela Anderson (as Beth), Paul Walter Hauser (Capt. Ed Hocken), Kevin Durand, all join in on the fun.
For those keeping track, this marks the fourth installment in The Naked Gun franchise, and it’s been a long time coming. Paramount’s been toying with a reboot since 2013, originally eyeing Ed Helms for the lead. But after some starts and stops, Seth MacFarlane stepped in to help steer the ship, producing alongside Erica Huggins, with Schaffer also serving as executive producer.
The original Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! debuted back in 1988 and quickly became a cult classic, thanks to Nielsen’s impeccable timing and the film’s relentless skewering of police procedurals. It spawned two sequels—1991’s The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and 1994’s Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult—and now, nearly three decades later, the baton has officially been passed.
Is the world ready for Liam Neeson to trade brooding threats for banana-peel gags? If this teaser’s any indication, it’s going to be a wild (and weird) ride.
Naked Gun hits theaters on August 1, 2025. So buckle up. Or don’t. Drebin Jr. probably wouldn’t.
