Netflix’s The Old Guard 2 will finally hit the streamer on July 2, 2025, five years after the original film became a breakout hit in July 2020. The sequel continues the story of Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team of immortal mercenaries as they face a new threat. After Booker’s betrayal and exile, Quynh, long thought lost, reappears with her own agenda.

The film reunites much of the original cast, including Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. This time around, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding also join the franchise in undisclosed roles that are sure to shake things up.
Netflix recently dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette that gives fans a closer look at what’s to come. The footage teases larger-scale action sequences, with one scene featuring an intense helicopter shootout that hints at the high-energy stakes in the sequel.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, known for her work on Lovecraft Country, The Morning Show, and You, the film takes viewers to unexpected locations and builds on the complex relationships within the team. Mahoney brings a fresh eye to the franchise while expanding on the action and character-driven moments introduced in the first film.
The Old Guard 2 is based on the second installment of Greg Rucka’s graphic novel series, Force Multiplied. Rucka returns as co-writer with Sarah L. Walker, further diving into the weight of immortality and the complications of the team’s ancient past.

The production faced delays, with filming wrapping back in summer 2022 before post-production was temporarily paused. Reshoots in late 2023 brought the film back on track, and now the release is officially set for 2025.
Fans of the first film can expect even more drama, layered storytelling, and action sequences that push the boundaries beyond what was seen in The Old Guard.
