Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair Set for 2027 Theatrical and IMAX Release

Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair Set for 2027 Theatrical and IMAX Release

Michael B. Jordan is officially setting the date to steal the spotlight — and maybe a few priceless paintings too.

Amazon MGM Studios has announced that The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by and starring Jordan, will hit theaters worldwide — and IMAX screens — on March 5, 2027. The stylish heist thriller, which also stars Taylor Russell as Jordan’s on-screen foil, will mark a major cinematic event early that year.

Jordan, fresh off his box office hit Sinners (currently setting fire to the midweek numbers), continues to expand his creative empire through his Outlier Society banner, producing alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff. The screenplay comes from Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy), based on earlier drafts by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. The film also boasts a special connection to its roots — Alan Trustman, the writer behind the 1968 original, serves as an executive producer.

A Classic Reimagined for the Big Screen

Originally directed by Norman Jewison, the first Thomas Crown Affair paired Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in a game of intellect, seduction, and high-stakes crime. The slick 1999 update, starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, modernized the story and racked up $124.3 million at the global box office.

This new iteration promises to carry the same DNA of elegance and intrigue, but with Jordan’s signature edge and a few modern surprises. Plot details are still under wraps, but if Jordan’s CinemaCon tease is any indication, audiences can expect a story “that demands the big screen” — and then some.

What’s Next

Production on The Thomas Crown Affair is set to kick off in London later this summer. Jordan’s momentum at the box office — powered by the runaway success of Sinners — has only amplified the excitement around this project. With Mission: Impossible winding down and Bond’s next era still on the horizon, insiders see The Thomas Crown Affair as Amazon MGM’s next major high-end thriller franchise in the making.

For now, mark your calendars: March 5, 2027. The crown is up for grabs — and Michael B. Jordan is ready to make his move.
