Tayarisha Poe’s upcoming film “The Young Wife” has unveiled its trailer, giving audiences a glimpse into a poignant exploration of modern relationships. Starring Kiersey Clemons and Leon Bridges, the film delves into the complexities of a non-traditional wedding celebration that unravels amidst societal pressures.

In “The Young Wife,” Clemons portrays a young woman on the verge of what she calls a “non-wedding,” a celebration that unravels the traditional notions of matrimony. As the pressures from family and friends mount, Clemons’ character finds herself in a spiral of panic, questioning the very foundation of her relationship just before the anticipated celebration.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, Judith Light, Kelly Marie Tran, Aya Cash, and Michaela Watkins also star in the feature with Connor Paolo, Aida Osman, Lukita Maxwell, Sandy Honig, Brandon Micheal Hall, and Jon Rudnitsky, rounding out the cast.

The trailer hints at themes of familial expectations, societal norms, and personal struggles that resonate with today’s audiences. The Young Wife will be available on digital, May 31, 2024.

The film, which premiered at SXSW 2023 to critical acclaim, was swiftly picked up by distributor Republic Pictures, a label under Paramount Pictures.

Director Tayarisha Poe, known for her debut film “Selah and the Spades,” describes “The Young Wife” as a story of color, chaos, tension, and release—a reflection of the human experience in the face of loneliness and the joy of being alive. Poe’s vision extends beyond the traditional as she sets the film in a slightly futuristic world, adapting to the virtual wedding experiences that emerged during the pandemic.
