Tika Sumpter Joins Morris Chestnut in ‘Watson’ [FIRST LOOK]

Tika Sumpter is scrubbing in.

Sumpter will guest star in the Season 1 finale of Watson, stepping into the world of high-stakes medicine—and high-key chemistry—as a potential love interest for Morris Chestnut’s Dr. John Watson.

CBS’s Watson reimagines the iconic Dr. John Watson, portrayed by Morris Chestnut, in a compelling blend of medical drama and detective intrigue. Set six months after Sherlock Holmes’ presumed death at the hands of Moriarty, Watson returns to his medical roots, leading a clinic dedicated to treating rare and enigmatic disorders. However, as he delves into complex medical cases, Watson is also drawn back into a web of mystery when evidence suggests Moriarty may still be alive, intertwining his past with his present in unexpected ways.

The series combines the intellectual thrill of classic detective stories with the emotional depth of medical dramas, offering viewers a fresh perspective on a beloved character navigating new challenges.

Sumpter plays Laila, a brilliant and warm-hearted pediatric oncologist who knows exactly who she is—and isn’t afraid to challenge Watson when their values clash. And while their initial tension might raise some eyebrows, it also promises to spark something more… complicated.

The two-part finale, titled “Your Life’s Work” Parts 1 and 2, airs May 4 and May 11 at 9/8c on CBS. Things take a dark turn as part of Watson’s team falls ill, caught in the crosshairs of a sinister plot. Meanwhile, Watson unveils a new project that could reshape everything he’s built. Adding even more pressure? The return of Randall Park’s Moriarty, Watson’s longtime nemesis, who isn’t done causing chaos.

Season 1 has been a quiet powerhouse for CBS, averaging 6.79 million viewers weekly and kicking off with 18.7 million across platforms. With a second season already locked for the 2025–2026 TV slate, Watson is just getting started.

So if you thought the finale was just going to be business as usual, think again. Between a medical emergency, a ticking clock, Moriarty’s return, and a new woman shaking up Watson’s world—this one’s going to leave a mark.

Catch the finale beginning Sunday, May 4 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
