Veteran actor Tim Meadows is set to star in CBS’s upcoming comedy pilot, “DMV.” The show comes from the creative minds behind “9JKL”—co-creator and showrunner Dana Klein, alongside Kapital Entertainment, TrillTV, and CBS Studios. The pilot, which has been greenlit by CBS, is a fresh take on the classic workplace comedy genre by setting its scene at one of the most dreaded places in American life: the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Written by Klein and inspired by author Katherine Heiny’s short story, “DMV” centers around a group of quirky employees working at a DMV office. Far from glamorous, these characters are stuck in a job that is often thankless and monotonous, dealing with annoyed customers who dread their visits. Yet, despite the challenges, the staff finds solace and camaraderie in each other, making for a humor-filled environment ripe for sitcom potential.
Meadows will play Gregg, a former high school English teacher turned DMV examiner who would rather breeze through driving tests—and his workdays—as quickly as possible. Known for his sardonic wit and uncanny ability to make spot-on observations, Gregg is the epitome of a man who has seen enough and is simply counting down the days until retirement.
“DMV” is produced by CBS Studios, with Klein serving as executive producer alongside Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling of TrillTV, and Robyn Meisinger of Anonymous Content. The show’s development aligns with CBS’s recent move to explore unique workplace settings for their comedies, and “DMV” fits the bill perfectly with its relatable setting and ensemble of eccentric characters.
Tim Meadows, a Saturday Night Live alumnus, continues to showcase his versatility across television and film. Recently, Meadows reprised his role as Mr. Duvall in the Paramount musical adaptation of “Mean Girls.” His other notable works include the comedy “Dream Scenario” alongside Nicolas Cage, and a decade-long portrayal of John Glascott on ABC’s “The Goldbergs” and its spin-off, “Schooled.”
Meadows’ upcoming projects include starring roles in Michel Gondry’s musical film “Atlantis,” set for release in May 2025, as well as the second season of DC’s “Peacemaker” series on Max. Additionally, he is set to take the stage in Simon Rich’s Broadway play, “All In.” Represented by Reliant Talent Agency and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Meadows continues to build an impressive and diverse body of work that spans genres and formats.
The pilot order for “DMV” is part of CBS’s broader strategy to develop distinctive and engaging content. Alongside “DMV,” CBS has also commissioned a development room for “Eternally Yours,” a new comedy from the showrunners of “Ghosts.” Both projects are being developed under CBS Studios, showcasing the network’s commitment to expanding its comedy slate with fresh, inventive stories.
