Tim Meadows to Reprise His Role in Mean Girls The Musical

Tim Meadows and Tina Fey are reprising their roles in the upcoming Mean Girls The Musical movie adaptation of the hit Broadway show of the same name. Fey wrote the original film and later wrote the book for the musical. Meadows starred as Principal Duval and as the math teacher Ms. Norbury.

They join new cast members Angourie Rice as Cady, Reneé Rapp as Regina, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, and Jaquel Spivey as Damian. Avantika, Christopher Briney, and Bebe Wood are also starring in major roles.

The film, while based on the musical will have a more pop-oriented sound than the Broadway version, which was designed to play to the back of the house. The Mean Girls musical is set to start filming in March 2023 and will be directed by Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne, with Fey writing the script and serving as a producer.

The original Mean Girls movie, based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman, follows high school newcomer Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she tries to fit in with the popular girls, the Plastics. When she falls for Regina’s ex-boyfriend, her efforts are sabotaged, leading to an epic showdown.

The musical version of “Mean Girls” debuted on Broadway in April 2018 and quickly became a critical and commercial success. The show is based on Tina Fey’s 2004 film of the same name, which she wrote and starred in. Fey also wrote the book for the musical, with music by her husband, Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

The show received 12 Tony Award nominations and won one, for Best Book of a Musical. It also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical. The original Broadway cast included Erika Henningsen as Cady, Taylor Louderman as Regina, Ashley Park as Gretchen, and Kate Rockwell as Karen.

Since its Broadway debut, the show has also gone on tour and been performed in London’s West End.

Paramount Pictures is producing the movie adaptation of the musical. Kyle Hanagami will serve as choreographer. Lorne Michaels, who produced the original film, is returning to produce the new movie with Fey. Erin David, Caroline Maroney, and Micah Frank are overseeing for Broadway Video, and Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond for Little Stranger.
