Tracee Ellis Ross, Joshua Boone Cast in Psychological Drama 'Blow the Horn'

Tracee Ellis Ross is stepping into intense psychological drama territory with Blow the Horn, an indie feature now filming in New York City. This marks the first narrative feature from writer-director Nacho Arenas, and also stars Joshua Boone (A Jazzman’s Blues), Wrenn Schmidt (For All Mankind), Dallas Roberts (Monsters), Ken Leung (Industry), and Lake Bell (Mother Couch).

Set in modern-day New York, the film follows three couples who arrive for a scheduled group therapy session, only to find themselves abandoned by their psychologist. With no professional to guide them, personal secrets unravel, long-simmering tensions boil over, and what starts as a structured exercise quickly spirals into something much more unpredictable.

The film, adapted from the critically acclaimed Argentinian play Bajo Terapia by Matias del Federico, has already seen a Spanish adaptation by filmmaker Gerado Herrero.

Jamin O’Brien (Hateship Loveship, Rob Peace) is producing for The Film Community, with Arenas producing under his Planeo Films banner alongside Ross, who’s also serving as a producer.

Ross, a Golden Globe winner and six-time Emmy nominee, is best known for her eight-season run on ABC’s Black-ish and, more recently, her role opposite Jeffrey Wright in the Oscar-winning American Fiction. Up next, she’ll also be seen in the highly anticipated seventh season of Netflix’s Black Mirror.

For Arenas, Blow the Horn is the next step in a career that has already showcased his ability to tackle layered storytelling. His previous work includes the Showtime short film Momma and Los Ultimos, a documentary on the Spanish Civil War that was featured in a worldwide exhibit for Fotospaña 2019.

With a gripping premise, an all-star cast, and an up-and-coming director with a unique vision, Blow the Horn is shaping up to be a psychological drama worth keeping an eye on.
