MindRiot Entertainment’s upcoming docuseries “Trash Talk” is set to delve deep into the legendary trash-talking prowess of NBA Hall-of-Famer Gary Payton. Directed by Scott Waugh, the series will not only explore Payton’s life and legacy but also highlight his unique and often wild trash-talking moments on the basketball court.

Payton’s reputation for tormenting opponents with his verbal jabs is well-documented. Whether it was taunting college rival Keith Smith during his Oregon State days or getting under the skin of NBA players and coaches, Payton’s trash-talking was a crucial part of his competitive arsenal.
One notable aspect of Payton’s trash-talking was his ability to get into the heads of opponents. During his college days, he made it a personal mission to outshine rivals and prove doubters wrong. Filming for “Trash Talk” begins in Nashville, Tennessee, coinciding with Payton’s appearance at the AMA Supercross Championship. The series will reveal different facets of Payton, including his interactions with rodeo cowboys, fishing adventures with producer John Dietsch, and possibly humorous challenges with children.
Gary Payton, a nine-time NBA All-Star and nine-time All-Defensive First Team member, played 17 seasons in the league. He achieved fame primarily as a defense-minded point guard with the Seattle SuperSonics, where he spent the majority of his career. Payton’s defensive prowess and charismatic presence earned him the nickname “The Glove” and made him a fan favorite during his time with the SuperSonics. He led the team to the NBA Finals in 1996 and remains one of the franchise’s most iconic players.
His later years in the NBA included stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat, where he won his only NBA championship in 2006 alongside stars like Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade. Off the court, Payton has been known for his outspokenness and competitive spirit, which will be highlighted in “Trash Talk.”
