Production is officially underway on Season 2 of Max’s acclaimed medical drama The Pitt, and with it comes a fresh behind-the-scenes first look and new additions to the cast.

The series, created by R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by John Wells and star Noah Wyle, returns with a new 15-hour shift set during a chaotic Fourth of July weekend—picking up 10 months after the events of the Season 1 finale. The new season is expected to premiere in January 2026.

Alongside the returning ensemble—Noah Wyle, Tracey Ifeachor, Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Fiona Dourif, Supriya Ganesh, Shabana Azeez, and Gerran Howell—four new recurring cast members have joined:

  • Irene Choi (Insatiable) as Joy, a third-year med student whose encyclopedic knowledge leans disturbingly macabre.
  • Laëtitia Hollard (Trauma) as Emma, a newly graduated nurse whose optimism may clash with ER realities.
  • Charles Baker (Breaking Bad) as Troy, an unhoused patient often overlooked by society.
  • Lucas Iverson (Frankenstein) as James, a seasoned fourth-year med student navigating the frontline chaos.

Set in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, The Pitt is structured in real-time, with each episode covering one intense hour in the ER. Shot on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank with exteriors in Pittsburgh, the series explores the human cost of modern healthcare through urgent cases, emotional tolls, and systemic challenges.

Since its premiere, The Pitt has earned critical praise and global popularity on Max, consistently ranking among the platform’s top three titles. It holds a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and has already secured awards at the Gotham TV Awards. It’s also shaping up to be a major contender at this year’s Emmys, with Wyle and LaNasa both expected to earn nominations.

The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include Gemmill, Wyle, Wells, Erin Jontow, Michael Hissrich, and Simran Baidwan.

Stay tuned for more updates as the emergency room doors swing open again in 2026.
