Tyler Perry Is Already Working on ‘Beauty in Black’ Season 2—Just Waiting on Netflix to Make It Official

Netflix might be keeping quiet, but Tyler Perry is already talking. The media mogul took to Instagram to hint that Beauty in Black will be back for a second season—despite Netflix not yet giving an official renewal. And honestly, with the numbers this show is pulling, Netflix would be crazy to let it go.

Perry’s caption left little to the imagination:

“I’m just gonna sit this right here!!

YALL AIN’T READY FOR SEASON 2 of #BeautyInBlack!!

Thanks for making season one HUGE!”

Now, while that’s not a straight-up confirmation, it’s pretty much everything but a formal press release. And let’s be real—when a creator as powerful as Perry is already moving like the renewal is locked in, it’s hard to believe Netflix won’t follow suit. Especially when the numbers are proving that Beauty in Black is a major hit.

Beauty in Black’s Strong Run on Netflix

The 16-episode drama, led by Snowfall and All American: Homecoming’s Taylor Polidore, has been thriving since its debut. The series follows Kimmie, a young stripper whose life takes a dark and unexpected turn when she crosses paths with a powerful but dysfunctional family running a cosmetics empire with some very shady business on the side.

With its second batch of episodes dropping on March 6, Beauty in Black quickly climbed the charts again. According to FlixPatrol, it currently holds the No. 2 spot on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10—trailing only Mindy Kaling’s Running Point. That’s not just impressive—it’s the kind of momentum that makes cancellations look real foolish.

Back when Part 1 of Beauty in Black premiered last October, it pulled huge numbers, racking up 1.2 billion minutes watched in its first full week. That landed it as the second-most-watched streaming original in the U.S., only behind The Lincoln Lawyer. In its second week, it soared even higher, hitting 8.7 million views and topping Netflix’s charts.

So, Netflix, what’s the hold-up?

Tyler Perry & Netflix: A Winning Partnership

Perry’s partnership with Netflix is stronger than ever. Beyond Beauty in Black, he’s got a packed slate with the streamer, including:

  • Madea’s Destination Wedding – Another installment in the legendary Madea franchise
  • She the People – A political comedy starring Terri J. Vaughn
  • R&B – A faith-based drama
  • Straw – A Taraji P. Henson-led drama marking their fourth collaboration (The Family That Preys, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Acrimony)

Not to mention The Six Triple Eight, Perry’s war drama starring Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, and Ebony Obsidian, which became his most-watched Netflix title to date.

With all that success, Beauty in Black getting another season seems like a no-brainer.

What’s Next for Beauty in Black?

While Netflix hasn’t given the official green light, What’s on Netflix reported that more episodes have already been filmed. This suggests that Netflix planned a bigger commitment from the jump, likely splitting the original order into two “seasons” rather than waiting on a traditional renewal.

Perry himself teased the upcoming twists, saying:

“I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to figure out where it’s going and how that rise of power happens with Kimmie. It’s going to be mind-blowing for people. Like, ‘Wait a minute, how does she get into power?’”

With Part 2 officially hitting Netflix on March 6, 2025, the show is far from over. And if the second half performs as well as the first, expect an actual Season 2 announcement to follow sooner rather than later.

But at this point, Perry is already moving like it’s happening. So really, it’s just a matter of Netflix making it official.
