Joe Goldberg is heading back to where it all started—but this time, his past isn’t staying buried. Netflix just dropped the trailer for the fifth and final season of You, giving us a glimpse at the last leg of Joe’s twisted journey.
According to the official synopsis, “In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires.”
Penn Badgley reprises his role as the ever-charming yet utterly terrifying Joe, alongside newcomers Griffin Matthews, Charlotte Ritchie, Madeline Brewer, and Anna Camp.
Netflix confirmed back in spring 2023 that You would wrap up with season five, and with that announcement came a shift behind the scenes. Michael Foley and Justin Lo step in as showrunners, while series creator Sera Gamble remains onboard as an executive producer.
For a show about an obsessive stalker, You has had quite the unpredictable journey. It originally premiered on Lifetime but was canceled after just one season. Then Netflix swooped in, and the series quickly became one of its biggest hits. The fourth season took a unique approach by splitting into two parts, keeping viewers hooked from February to March 2023.
Now, with Joe returning to the city that made him, the final season is poised to be a full-circle moment. But if the past seasons have taught us anything, it’s that Joe’s idea of a “happily ever after” tends to come with a high body count.
You is produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Greg Berlanti, Sera Gamble, Penn Badgley, and more serving as executive producers. The final season premieres April 24 on Netflix.
