Tyler Perry Provide Update on Sister Act 3: "Just Make Sure We Have The Right Writers, The Right Script, The Right Story"

Tyler Perry recently shared updates on Sister Act 3, providing insights into the progress and what fans can anticipate. In an interview with ET’s Rachel Smith, Perry conveyed his enthusiasm, acknowledging the prolonged wait, stating, “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long, like I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this.”

The inception of Perry’s involvement dates back to November 2018, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen with Whoopi Goldberg. The official announcement from Disney came two years later, with Goldberg reprising her role and Perry taking on the role of a producer.

Goldberg, equally eager about returning to her role as Deloris Van Cartier, emphasized the film’s progress, saying, “It’s coming. We gotta shoot it, but it’s happening.” She expressed optimism about the script, noting, “You’re never fully happy with a script because one of the things you find is you wanna have the space to make an adjustment if you need to.”

The cast for Sister Act 3 may include stars like Lizzo and Keke Palmer, and efforts are being made to reunite original cast members for a celebration of Sister Act 2’s 30th anniversary on The View. Goldberg extended an invitation to Sheryl Lee Ralph, saying, “And we’re gonna try to get as many cast members on to share memories from the movie. Would you do us the honor of coming back? And as soon as we know when it is, we’ll do that.”

Perry highlighted the importance of ensuring the right elements are in place, stating, “Well, just making sure we have the right writers, the right script, the right story, [and] all of those things are so important because it’s such an important, iconic film. We want to make sure we do it justice and do it well, so we’re willing to wait for the right script.”

He shared optimism about progress, mentioning, “[We got] a great story we’re working on that Whoopi’s excited about, I’m excited about, the director’s excited about, [and] so Disney’s excited about.”

In the interim, fans can enjoy Perry’s recent project, Mea Culpa, and his other upcoming projects like Six Triple Eight.
