Sony Pictures Animation is stepping into the sports world with GOAT, an original animated feature set to release in theaters on February 13, 2026, just in time for NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. The studio officially unveiled the film’s all-star voice cast and exclusive footage during a presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Headlining the cast is Caleb McLaughlin, NBA superstar Stephen Curry, Gabrielle Union, Nick Kroll, Nicola Coughlan, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, and Patton Oswalt. Curry also serves as a producer on the project through his company Unanimous Media, alongside Erick Peyton.
Directed by Tyree Dillihay (Bob’s Burgers) and co-directed by Adam Rosette (Orion and the Dark), GOAT is a fast-paced action-comedy set in a vibrant, all-animal world. The story follows Will, a small goat with a big dream: to play roarball, a full-contact, co-ed sport ruled by the fastest and fiercest animals. Undeterred by the doubts of his larger, tougher teammates, Will sets out to prove that size doesn’t matter—skill and heart do.
The Team Behind the Scenes
The film is written by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley (Fairfax), with producing duties split between:
- Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton (Unanimous Media)
- Michelle Raimo Kouyate, Adam Rosenberg, and Rodney Rothman (Modern Magic)
- David Schulenburg (co-producer)
- Rick Mischel and Fonda Snyder (executive producers)
A Vision Rooted in Sports, Family, and Fun
“As a lifelong fan of animation and sports, GOAT is my dream project,” said Dillihay. “We’ve got a modern take on a classic story in a rich new world where amazing happens.”
Curry and Peyton added: “With GOAT, we’re telling a story full of humor, action, and heart—the kind we love creating at Unanimous. It’s a chance to uplift audiences of all ages with diverse characters and an underdog story worth cheering for.”
Curry’s Hollywood Playbook Expands
This project is the latest in Curry’s growing list of Hollywood ventures. His Unanimous Media banner is also behind the upcoming Peacock series Mr. Throwback, Netflix’s Good Times animated reboot, and the basketball-themed comedy Trick Shot. The company continues to focus on stories rooted in family, faith, and sports.
With GOAT, Sony Pictures Animation is aiming to score big by blending animated storytelling with the high-energy world of professional sports, delivered by a cast and crew full of champions—on and off the screen.
