Jane Schoenbrun’s new horror film has dropped its first full trailer ahead of its August theatrical release.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which premiered to significant critical praise at the Cannes Film Festival on May 13, centers on Kris (Hannah Einbinder), a young director hired to resurrect the Camp Miasma slasher franchise. In search of authenticity, she tracks down Billy Preston (Gillian Anderson), the final girl of the original Camp Miasma film, only to find her living alone at the abandoned sleepaway camp where it was all filmed. Things take a sharp turn into the uncanny when Billy begins warning that “Little Death,” the franchise’s hazmat-suit-wearing, harpoon-wielding villain, is coming back. The trailer hints at a psychosexual connection developing between the two women as the horror escalates around them.
The ensemble cast also includes Zach Cherry, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Jack Haven, Eva Victor, Sarah Sherman, Arthur Conti, Dylan Baker, Patrick Fischler, Amanda Fix, and Kevin McDonald.
Schoenbrun, whose previous films include We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, has described the film as both a “new kind of horror remake” and their “best attempt at the sleepover classic.” The film is produced by Mubi and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, with Mubi releasing it in theaters on August 7 across the US, UK, Canada, and numerous other territories.
