Netflix is bringing the chaos this February with Zero Day, a gripping political thriller starring Angela Bassett as President Evelyn Mitchell and Robert De Niro in his first major TV role as former U.S. President George Mullen. Together, they navigate the aftermath of a catastrophic cyberattack that has plunged the nation into chaos, resulting in thousands of fatalities.

In Zero Day, Mullen, now retired, is called back into action by President Mitchell to lead the Zero Day Commission. Together, they work to track down those responsible for an attack that claimed thousands of lives, caused national infrastructure failures, and left the country reeling. The six-episode series dives into the murky waters of disinformation, political power plays, and the intersection of technology, Wall Street, and government.

The trailer sets a chilling tone as De Niro’s Mullen declares, “Three thousand, four hundred, two people died on Zero Day. Plane crashes, train derailments. Total chaos.” The chaos prompts Bassett’s President Mitchell to grant the Zero Day Commission sweeping powers, telling Mullen, “Congress is authorizing a special investigatory commission with powers of surveillance, search, and seizure.”

In one of the most poignant moments of the trailer, Mitchell delivers the line, “People believe what they need to believe. The truth is the truth, but it’s not always the most important thing,” hinting at the moral complexities that lie ahead.

Created by Eric Newman (Narcos), Noah Oppenheim (Jackie), and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael S. Schmidt, Zero Day brings together an ensemble cast that includes Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and McKinley Belcher III.

Directed by Emmy-winner Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland), the series combines real-world themes with high-stakes drama. De Niro also serves as an executive producer alongside Newman, Oppenheim, Schmidt, and Jonathan Glickman.

Zero Day premieres February 20, 2025, on Netflix. Don’t miss this exploration of power, trust, and the cost of truth in a time of crisis. Check out the official trailer now.
