Zoë Kravitz to Star in Untitled Apple Film from Director Megan Park

Zoë Kravitz is heading back to Apple, and this time she is front and center. The Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award nominee has signed on to lead an untitled new film from writer and director Megan Park, the creative force behind the breakout coming-of-age dramedy My Old Ass. Apple Original Films won the project in a competitive bidding war that saw off challenges from Warner Bros., Sony, Universal, Amazon and Netflix.

Park will direct from her own script and executive produce, with Apple Studios and LuckyChap producing in association with FilmNation. LuckyChap, the production company run by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Milan Popelka, is overseeing the project through Ackerley and Bronte Payne.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, though reports suggest the film carries tones of Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy and Julia Roberts’ Stepmom. The story is said to center on a woman who discovers her boyfriend has a wife and children when they unexpectedly show up on her doorstep. Despite the collision course that puts the two women at odds, the protagonist finds herself thrust into an unlikely caregiving role with the kids. Beyond that, the logline remains a mystery.

For Kravitz, the project adds to an already packed slate. She recently made her directorial debut with the Amazon MGM thriller Blink Twice and appeared alongside Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. She also played herself in a multi-episode arc on Apple’s acclaimed comedy The Studio, making this new film a return to a platform she clearly has a strong relationship with. Coming up, she stars alongside Nicholas Hoult in David Leitch’s heist comedy How to Rob a Bank, which Amazon MGM releases in theaters on September 4, and she is set to return for the long-awaited third season of Big Little Lies.
