Quinta Brunson Becomes Second Black Woman to Win Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy + Full Emmy Winners List

In a groundbreaking moment at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, Quinta Brunson secured her place in history by winning the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her outstanding performance in Season 2 of “Abbott Elementary.” This achievement marks a significant milestone as Quinta becomes the second Black woman to receive this prestigious honor, following in the footsteps of the legendary Isabel Sanford, who won the award over four decades ago for her role in “The Jeffersons.”

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony took place on Monday, January 15, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Originally slated for September, the ceremony was postponed due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, making it one of the longest labor crises in the history of the entertainment industry.

In addition to Quinta’s historic win, the awards night saw Ayo Edebiri taking home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in ‘The Bear.’ This marks Ayo’s first Emmy, adding to her growing list of accolades, including a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award.

The 76th Emmy Awards telecast is anticipated to return to the traditional schedule, with the ceremony honoring outstanding television achievements from the past year. The 75th Emmy Awards recognized shows that made significant contributions to television, with notable mentions for “Succession,” “The Last of Us,” and “The White Lotus.”

As the evening unfolded, Anthony Anderson, known for his role in “black-ish,” hosted the ceremony at the Peacock Theater. The event was broadcast live on Fox and streamed on various platforms, including Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and Sling TV.
