Hulu has just announced the streaming availability of all three seasons of the popular Bounce Network dramedy series, ‘Johnson.’ Our favorite series joins the streamer as part of its commitment to showcasing Black stories and storytellers in the “Black Stories Always” hub. The timely release coincides with Black History Month, emphasizing Hulu’s ongoing dedication to the celebration of diverse narratives throughout the year.
Created by Deji LaRay, who also stars in the series, ‘Johnson’ revolves around the lives of four lifelong friends—Greg (Deji LaRay), Omar (Thomas Q. Jones), Keith (Philip Smithey), and Jarvis (Derrex Brady)—all sharing the same last name but with no familial ties. The show intricately weaves a narrative exploring love, friendship, heartbreak, and personal growth from the perspective of Black men.
Notable for its candid discussions on topics such as fatherhood, classism, and the evolving dynamics between Black men and women, ‘Johnson’ has garnered attention for its unapologetic portrayal of Black masculinity. The series features a predominantly Black male cast, including D.L. Hughley, Terri J. Vaughn, Khalilah Joi, and Earthquake, with guest appearances by co-producer Cedric The Entertainer.
Produced in collaboration with Eric C. Rhone and Cedric The Entertainer’s A Bird & A Bear Entertainment, as well as Deji LaRay and Thomas Q. Jones’ Midnight Train Productions, ‘Johnson’ stands as a testament to the power of authentic storytelling. The series offers a unique journey of love, self-discovery, and brotherhood, emphasizing the Black male perspective while remaining inclusive of all audiences.
As a HUGE fan of the series, I encourage you to stream all three seasons.
